Haraam Additives

Additives in foodstuff are numbered with the prefix 'E'. Some of these additives are Haraam due to their source being derived from animals, which are either Haraam or not slaughtered in accordance with the principles laid down by the Shariah. Vegetarians would also benefit from this list.

Following are Haraam additives with prefix 'E':
 

1 E-120 COCHINOAL. Fatty Acids and Egg Yolk of the dried female insect Doctilopius Coccus and 10% of Carmiaic Acid.
2 E-252 Waste Animal and Vegetable Material.
3 E-405 Propylene Glycol Alginate or Propylene Glycol Monostearate.
4 E-413 Gum Tragacanth
5 E-422 Fatty Acid (Glycerol) can be of either animal or vegetable origin. If not specified, should be considered Haramm. If specified as of vegetable origin, it is Halaal
6 E-430 Fatty Acid molecules
7 E-431 Fatty Acids
8 E-441 Gelatine (Halaal if sure source is from Zaeeha animals) beef Gelatine from non-Muslim countries is also Haraam.
9 E-470 Sodium Potassium and Calcium Salts of Fatty Acids.
10 E-471 Glycerine and Fatty Acids, Glycerol Monostearate
11 E-472(a) Aceitc Acid Esters of Mono and Di Glyceride of Fatty Acids

17 E-474 Lard. Tallow (Usually of animal origin) can also be palm oil but hasto be specifiedtobe considered Halaal
